Trump Suggests Kremlin May Consider Peace Talks If Territorial Concessions Discussed, Bloomberg Reports

US President Donald Trump has suggested that the Kremlin may be open to peace talks if the issue of territorial concessions is included in the negotiations, Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter on August 7.
The comment was reportedly made during an informal phone call with allied leaders on Wednesday. According to the outlet, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also took part in the conversation.
Sources told Bloomberg that Trump expressed support for a potential ceasefire in Ukraine and suggested that Russian leader Vladimir Putin might be willing to engage in talks if territorial questions were on the agenda.
Meanwhile, Russian leader Vladimir Putin has said he is not opposed to a potential meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy—but claims that conditions for such talks are not yet in place, according to Russian state media TASS on August 7.

“I’ve said many times that I have nothing against it in principle — it’s possible. But certain conditions must be created for that. Unfortunately, we are still far from creating those conditions,” Putin told journalists following a meeting at the Kremlin with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Previously, The New York Times reported that Trump plans to meet with Putin as early as next week in an effort to push for a ceasefire. The proposed in-person summit would mark a pivotal moment in Trump’s pressure campaign on Moscow, which includes a deadline of August 8 for Russia to halt hostilities or face expanded US sanctions.
Trump has reportedly communicated his intention to Zelenskyy and several European leaders, suggesting that the meeting could serve to finalize ceasefire terms—if Russia signals a willingness to negotiate.
“If Putin refuses, we’ll go to sanctions,” Trump told aides, according to The New York Times.
