“Peklo” to “Neptune”: Ukraine’s New Missiles Power Monthly Attacks on Russian Targets

Ukraine now uses its domestically produced ballistic and long-range cruise missiles regularly, thanks to a massive surge in missile production, said Herman Smetanin, Ukraine’s Minister for Strategic Industries, during the Ukrainian Weapons 2024 forum in Kyiv, which was attended by a UNITED24 Media correspondent on April 11.
“We use our long-range ‘Long Neptune’ cruise missile and ballistic missiles actively every month,” Smetanin said.
Smetanin revealed that in 2024, Ukraine’s defense industry increased cruise missile production eightfold compared to the previous year. He attributed this leap to the introduction of multiple new missile systems, including a new category, “rocket drones .”
In total, over 100 domestically produced missiles were manufactured in 2024 alone.
Among them are several new designs such as the Palianytsia, Peklo, Ruta, and a previously undisclosed missile known as Bars.

“Thanks to these new systems, we’ve been able to scale production at unprecedented levels,” Smetanin said.
The increase in output has enabled Ukraine to rely more heavily on its own high-precision weapons in strikes deep behind enemy lines, rather than depending solely on imported systems.
Earlier, Ukraine introduced its latest domestically developed cruise missile, Trembita , at the Defense Tech Innovations Forum 2025 in Kyiv.
According to Ukraine’s Army TV, the new weapon is designed to strike deep behind enemy lines.
