Ukraine is advancing its missile development program with plans to produce 3,000 missiles by the end of 2025, according to The Economist on December 23.

A key project in this effort is Trembita, often referred to as the “people’s missile” for its affordability and efficiency.

Named after the Ukrainian alpine horn, it features a modern pulsejet engine adapted from the German V-1 bomb and can reach speeds of 400 km/h with a range of 200 kilometers. An advanced model, reportedly capable of longer distances, is also in development.

The missile’s production, carried out in dispersed facilities, ensures secrecy and resilience against Russian strikes. Its cost—just $3,000 for the decoy version and $15,000 for a fully equipped model—makes it significantly cheaper than most Western alternatives.

According to The Economist, Trembita is part of Ukraine’s broader strategy to revive its domestic defense industry. Officials are optimistic about the program, with Vice Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov calling 2025 “the year of the Ukrainian cruise missile.”

Despite challenges like financing and security risks, engineers plan to begin serial production after final field tests, aiming to deploy up to 20-30 missiles in synchronized launches.

“If there is a ceasefire, it’ll be between governments,” Biryukov said. “Our rockets will keep flying.”

Previously, it was reported that Ukraine is ramping up its missile program, unveiling three cutting-edge systems in recent months to reduce reliance on Western aid and expand its strike capabilities against Russian military targets.
