Pentagon Plans Weekly Arms Deliveries to Ukraine Before Biden’s Term Ends
The United States plans to send weapons shipments to Ukraine almost weekly to use the remaining $7.1 billion in allocated funds before President Joe Biden’s term ends, said Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh during a briefing on November 14.
“The president made clear that, you know, he wants to spend every, you know, spend down the authority that Congress has allocated and authorized before he leaves office,” Singh emphasized speaking about how the US plans to allocate the remaining $7.1 billion to Ukraine.
She noted that the Pentagon is also replenishing its weapons stockpiles to ensure the US maintains its defense readiness.
When asked if all planned deliveries would arrive before Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Singh explained that delivery times depend on the type of equipment.
“Some systems can be delivered to Ukraine very quickly, and you’ve seen that happen in days or weeks. But sometimes, it takes longer for available resources to reach Ukraine, which could mean weeks or months. Remember, we also have USAID packages, some of which may extend over several years,” Singh stated.
She added that US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin recently had a call with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. They discussed the capabilities that Ukraine needs to continue to push the Russians back and continue to be successful in strategic battles.
“And that’s something that this administration is committed to”, she concluded.
Earlier, the Biden administration lifted a ban on deploying US military contractors to Ukraine to support Ukrainian forces. These contractors will now be able to provide essential maintenance and repair services, particularly for F-16 fighter jets and Patriot air defense systems.
