Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) has detained eight individuals suspected of preparing acts of sabotage across several regions of the country, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced, Polish outlet tvn24 reported on October 21.

The arrests, carried out in coordination with other security services, are part of an ongoing investigation involving reconnaissance of military sites and critical infrastructure.

Minister-Coordinator of Special Services Tomasz Siemoniak said the suspects were engaged in planning and preparing sabotage operations, including the collection of intelligence on key facilities and the means to execute attacks, according to tvn24.

He noted that ABW is working closely with the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW), the police, and the prosecutor’s office.

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński warned that Poland should expect more such incidents, citing increased foreign interest in Polish critical infrastructure in recent months, tvn24 stated.

“The services are acting very aggressively. The vast majority of attempts are thwarted at an early stage,” Kierwiński told Radio Zet, emphasizing that Polish security agencies remain on high alert.
