Pope Francis Left Money in Will for Ambulances to Ukraine, Reveals Dominican Nun

Dominican nun Sister Lucía Caram revealed that Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025, left her money in his will to purchase ambulances for Ukraine, Religión Digital reported on December 2.
In an interview on Betevé program Órbita B, Caram, who has traveled to Ukraine more than 20 times since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, expressed her surprise and gratitude for the Pope’s gesture.

She explained that while Francis had promised to help her, she never imagined such a personal and significant contribution.
The funds are intended to support her humanitarian work in Ukraine, specifically to buy ambulances for those affected by the war. Caram spoke fondly of her close relationship with the late Pope, emphasizing his unwavering support for her cause.

In the second part of the interview, she also discussed her meeting with current Pope Leo XIV, describing him as “prudent” and “clear in his words.”
Caram had the opportunity to meet Leo last August for almost an hour. “It was a longer meeting than many bishops had. While I was waiting my turn, I saw how he wrapped up his meetings in five minutes. I was worried about how he would explain the project in Ukraine in five minutes, but instead, he spent fifty with me,” she recounted.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously met with Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, where the two discussed the ongoing war and the urgent need for a fair and lasting peace. The meeting took place during Zelenskyy’s visit to attend a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing.
