US President Donald Trump has indicated that his administration has engaged in discussions with Russia regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine and suggested that further steps could be taken in coordination with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

According to AP, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on January 31, Trump stated that “very serious” discussions have already taken place and that a conversation with Putin is being considered. He emphasized that he aims to end the war, asserting that it would not have started had he been in office at the time.

“We will be speaking, and I think will perhaps do something that’ll be significant. We want to end this war,” Trump said.

When asked whether he had personally spoken with Putin, Trump declined to comment but reiterated that “serious discussions” were ongoing. He did not specify who within his administration had engaged in talks with Russian officials but confirmed that communication between the two sides was taking place.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that BRICS nations would face 100% tariffs if they attempted to introduce an alternative currency to the US dollar. In a statement on Truth Social, he ruled out the possibility of BRICS replacing the dollar in global trade, emphasizing that any country attempting to do so should “say hello to tariffs and goodbye to America.”
