Putin awarded North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with the “80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945” medal. The ceremony took place on Thursday at the Mansudae Assembly Hall in Pyongyang.

This was reported by The Moscow Times, citing a report on VKontakte from the Russian Embassy in North Korea.

The medal, awarded to Kim Jong Un by a decree of leader Vladimir Putin dated September 2, 2024, was presented to Kang Yong Sok, deputy head of the Presidium of the Supreme People’s Assembly of North Korea.

According to the decree, Kim Jong Un made a “significant personal contribution” to preserving the memory of Soviet citizens who perished and were buried in North Korea. The award was presented by the Russian Ambassador to North Korea, Alexander Matsegora. Kang Yong Sok conveyed Kim Jong Un’s gratitude and stated that the gesture reaffirmed the “high level of comprehensive strategic partnership” between the two regimes.
