Putin Conducts Nuclear Drills, Says “Russia Needs Nuclear Forces On Tap”
Putin overseed a nuclear deterrence exercise via video conference, emphasizing that “Russia needs nuclear forces on tap”, the Kremlin’s press service reported on October 29.
Putin stated that maintaining modern and ready-for-action nuclear capabilities is crucial for Russia.
Putin claims that despite Russia’s “commitment to peace” and nuclear weapons beeing a “last resort for ensuring security”, it is clear that Russia’s nuclear triad serves as a safeguard of Russian sovereignty and security.
“It allows us to achieve strategic deterrence and maintain nuclear parity, a key factor in global stability,” Putin said.
He also said that Russia will switch the Strategic Missile Forces to new stationary and mobile systems that are more accurate and capable of overcoming air defense.
The drills also involved simulating decision-making processes for nuclear deployment, with some practical missile launches.
“Ballistic and cruise missiles will be launched during training exercise on the use of nuclear weapons”, said Russian dictator.
Putin added that while Russia is not interested in an arms race, it will continue to uphold its nuclear forces at a level of “necessary sufficiency.”
Russian Defense Minister Belousov said that Russian Armed Forces train to launch a massive nuclear strike in response to an enemy nuclear strike.
Earlier, NATO conducted annual nuclear drills amidst Russia’s heightened nuclear rhetoric.
