White House officials admitted that President Donald Trump’s goal of securing a ceasefire in Ukraine by Easter will not be achieved, sources told The Telegraph on April 2.

Despite initial hopes for a quick resolution, both Russia’s stalling tactics and Ukraine’s negotiation challenges have delayed any progress toward peace, raising concerns about the prolonged war against Ukraine.

Sources revealed that the Trump administration is growing frustrated with Moscow’s stalling tactics and is preparing to apply pressure on both Russia and Ukraine to reach a settlement.

Trump initially aimed for a full ceasefire by April or May, followed by a lasting peace agreement.

However, senior officials now admit that such an agreement will not be reached in the coming months, raising concerns that the war, now in its third year, may continue.

According to The Telegraph, the failure to secure a ceasefire would mark a significant setback for Trump, who campaigned on the promise of ending the war within 24 hours.

Over the weekend, Trump voiced frustration with the Russian leader, stating he was “pissed off” with Putin’s lack of progress on the ceasefire talks.

In a series of meetings, White House and State Department officials discussed the possibility of economic and diplomatic measures to pressure Russia into agreeing to a peace deal.

James Hewitt, a US National Security Council spokesman, said on March 31 that Trump was prepared to impose secondary sanctions on Russian oil if Moscow does not take negotiations seriously.

This shift in tone comes after Trump had previously expressed trust in Putin’s commitment to peace, with the White House now increasingly wary of the Russian leader’s intentions.

In a sign that Russia may be preparing for prolonged war, Putin has ordered the largest conscription drive in 14 years, demanding 160,000 men be drafted by mid-July.
