Putin Is Playing a Nuclear Gamble, Says EU on Recent Russian ICBM Strike of Ukraine
The European Union reacted to reports of Russia deploying an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) during a recent attack on Ukraine, European Pravda reported, citing Peter Stano, spokesperson for the European Commission on November 21.
“Putin is once again playing a nuclear gamble,” he remarked, calling such behavior a dangerous provocation.
“We have seen reports of Russia’s use of such missiles and are currently assessing the full picture,” Stano stated.
“Clearly, such actions would represent yet another blatant escalation by Putin,” Stano added, emphasizing that recent developments show no sign of de-escalation.
Russia’s continued attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, along with its updated nuclear doctrine and the involvement of North Korean soldiers in Europe, point to an ongoing strategy of escalation rather than peace, Stano added.
Stano further stated that confirmation of Russia’s use of an ICBM would signify “another qualitative and quantitative shift” in its aggressive approach.
Earlier, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed Russia’s reported use of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) to strike the city of Dnipro on November 21.
