Russian leader Vladimir Putin was reportedly flying over the Kursk region aboard a helicopter on May 20 when the area came under intense Ukrainian drone attack, according to Russian media outlet Astra, citing a local air defense commander.
The commander, Yuriy Dashkin, claimed that Putin’s aircraft was “essentially in the epicenter of the repelled strike.”
“The intensity of the attack significantly increased during the flight of the helicopter carrying the Supreme Commander-in-Chief over the territory of the Kursk region,” Dashkin said.
“We simultaneously conducted air defense combat operations and ensured the safety of the president’s helicopter in the air.”
According to Dashkin, Russian air defense units shot down 46 drones during the incident.
Earlier, Pavel Zolotaryov, head of the Glushkovsky district in Russia’s Kursk region, told Russian leader Vladimir Putin that the Ukrainian city of Sumy should be annexed to Russian territory.
