Oleksandr Titarchuk, the Chornobyl nuclear plant’s chief engineer, confirmed that there is now a possibility of radioactive leakage, following Russian drone strike.

Speaking on-site to Ukrinform, Titarchuk emphasized that, despite the potential risk, the situation remains under control.

“There is now a possibility of radioactive leakage,” Titarchuk said.

“No critical levels of radiation background have been detected at the sites. Situation is under control,” he concluded, assuring that monitoring efforts continue to maintain safety at the facility.

On February 14, Russian drone strike has damaged a nuclear sheild above Reactor 4 at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed that its team at Chornobyl heard an explosion around 01:50 on the night of February 13-14. The blast originated from the New Safe Confinement (NSC), the massive steel structure enclosing the remains of Reactor 4.
