Romanian President Nicușor Dan will travel to Kyiv this fall at the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he announced on August 12.

“I accepted President Zelenskyy’s invitation to visit Kyiv this autumn,” Dan wrote, following what he described as an “in-depth” phone discussion with the Ukrainian leader.

Dan stressed the urgency of achieving a “comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine” to bring an end to Russia’s daily attacks.

He voiced Romania’s support for US President Donald Trump’s efforts to broker a ceasefire, while underscoring that peace must be reached through negotiations directly with Ukraine.

“An agreement must be just, long-lasting, and sustainable. Romania supports the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Dan said.

“As a neighbor and partner, Romania will continue to stand with Ukraine in all efforts to achieve a just peace for the Ukrainian people. The security of Ukraine is closely linked with the security of the Black Sea and of Europe.”

Earlier, the President of Romania believed Romania could provide significant operational support to Western allies as part of a potential deterrence contingent in Ukraine, but should not directly participate in it.
