US President Donald Trump is losing patience with Russia over its lack of progress in negotiations aimed at ending the Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Speaking on Fox News, Rubio said that Trump remains committed to playing a role in achieving a peace agreement but is increasingly frustrated with Moscow’s inaction.
“He is losing patience. He is losing his willingness to continue waiting for Russia to do something,” Rubio stated, referring to the ongoing communication between Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, which has reportedly produced no concrete results.
Rubio noted that Trump does not view the war as his own, but sees ending it as a priority for his administration. According to Rubio, the US President is not willing to be drawn into a prolonged process of fruitless dialogue.
“He’s not going to allow himself to be trapped in endless talks about talks,” Rubio said.
The Secretary of State also pointed to heavy Russian losses since the beginning of the year, estimating that over 100,000 Russian soldiers have been killed. He described the war as one marked by significant casualties and destruction, adding that Moscow appears to be deliberately stalling.
Earlier, US Senator Lindsey Graham warned that President Trump is prepared to impose sweeping tariffs on countries continuing to buy Russian oil, including China, India, and Brazil. Speaking to Fox News, Graham said the proposed sanctions bill would hit Russian oil buyers with up to 500% tariffs, pressuring them to choose between trade with Moscow and access to the US economy. “Trump is tired of this game,” he said, urging Putin to return to negotiations.
