Russia plans to “settle” the “Ukrainian question” by 2026, fearing that failure to do so will prevent it from ever catching up to the United States and China, according to Vadym Skibitskyi, a representative of Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR). He made the remarks during a roundtable discussion on “New Contours of European Security,” reported Ukrainian media RBC-Ukraine on March 26.

According to Skibitskyi, Moscow has outlined 15 potential military conflict scenarios through 2045, six of which involve Northern Europe.

“Northern Europe understands this. The Baltic states understand it. Poland understands it. There are four possible military conflict scenarios concerning Poland alone. Poland now fully realizes this is a direct threat,” he explained.

He also noted that Russia has developed a geopolitical forecast for 2026–2035, assessing its long-term consequences up to 2045. The documents reportedly state that the “Ukrainian question” must be resolved by 2026.

“If the war drags on for another 5–10 years, Russia will never be able to catch up and reach the same level as the US and China,” the intelligence official added.

Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda urged the United States to station nuclear weapons in Poland, arguing that such a move is necessary to deter Russia.

Duda suggested that US President Donald Trump could relocate nuclear warheads currently stored in Western Europe or the United States to Polish territory.
