Russia Attacks Kharkiv and Odesa With Drones, Kills One and Sets Fire to One of Europe’s Largest Markets

Russia launched coordinated overnight drone attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Kharkiv and Odesa, unleashing 20 Shahed-type drones over Kharkiv in a two-hour-long assault, injuring 11 people and hitting one of the largest markets in Eastern Europe and striking civilian infrastructure in Odesa, where at least one person was killed and one was injured.
Regional governors reported that fires broke out in both cities, and multiple injuries were reported.
In Kharkiv, the mass drone strike ignited at least six fires and left four civilians injured. The aerial assault damaged residential buildings, businesses, and vehicles across four districts—Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi, and Industrialnyi—according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov.
One of the largest fires engulfed part of the Barabashovo market, one of the biggest marketplaces in Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

In Shevchenkivskyi district, debris from a downed drone sparked a fire that burned through the roof and a room of a private home, damaging about 100 square meters.
In Kholodnohirskyi, a drone strike set a vehicle ablaze and damaged a nearby residence. A restaurant caught fire in the Kyivskyi district after a direct hit.
In contrast, in the Industrialnyi district, a vehicle was damaged and ignited by the blast wave and shrapnel from another drone.
Among the injured in Kharkiv were four civilians who suffered acute stress reactions: a 71-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman, and two other men aged 59 and 44.

Meanwhile, in the South of Ukraine, Russian drones also struck Odesa district overnight. Regional governor Oleh Kiper reported the destruction of several private homes and other civilian infrastructure.
Fires erupted in multiple areas, and rescue workers later discovered the body of one civilian killed in the attack. Later, SES reported that one person got injured in the attack as well.
Earlier, Russian forces launched a series of drone attacks targeting Kyiv, Cherkasy, and the Kharkiv region, causing fires and significant infrastructure damage across multiple urban areas.
SES reported that 11 people were injured in Kyiv, including two children aged 14 and 15. The strikes resulted in fires and destruction in the Obolonskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, and Shevchenkivskyi districts of the capital.
