Russian authorities in Belgorod region have started the evacuation of residents from the border district of Chervonoyaruz to “safer locations,” according to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

Gladkov attributed the evacuation to “the activity of the Armed Forces on the border of the district.” He stated, “We have an anxious morning, enemy activity on the border of Chervonoyaruz district. I am sure that our military personnel will do everything to deal with the threat that has arisen. But in order to ensure the life and health of our population, we are starting to move people living in Chervonoyaruz district to safer places. The process of coordination and evacuation of people is currently ongoing on the ground. We have already sent the transport.”

On August 12, BBC Russia confirmed the evacuation stating, that “Prior to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation, the sole operational checkpoint on the Russia-Ukraine border was located between Kolotilovka, Russia, and Pokrovka, Ukraine.”

Additionally, Gladkov claimed that there were “40 artillery strikes and approximately 42 UAV attacks” on the region.

On August 12, Russian blogger Evgeny Poddubny in his telegram channel claimed that Ukrainian forces attempted a breakthrough into Russia’s Belgorod region.

According to Poddubny, Ukrainian forces, equipped with heavy armored vehicles, attacked the Kolotilovka checkpoint in the Krasnoyarsk district. Small assault teams tried to infiltrate Russian territory. Border guards engaged in ongoing combat as of 9:00 Moscow time.

The Russian Aerospace Forces have reportedly been targeting Ukrainian reinforcements moving towards the border throughout the morning.

“Due to the escalating situation, local authorities have initiated the evacuation of residents from the Krasnoyarsk district to safer locations within the region,” he stated.
