Russia Deploys Massive 3-Ton Bombs in Ukraine as Civilian Casualties Mount

Authors

Russia has initiated the deployment of 3-ton KABs into Ukraine. The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video showing a Su-34 aircraft striking with a 3-ton FAB-3000 guided bomb. According to Russian sources, the strike targeted a Ukrainian military position.

In the video, a Russian pilot praised the capability of the bomb, stating that it could effectively hit virtually any target of such nominal size.

The FAB-3000 is a 3000-kilogram bomb developed by the Soviet Union and predominantly used by the Russian Air Force. It features a high-explosive warhead designed to penetrate concrete and other fortified structures. Originally introduced in 1946, it is utilized on bombers like the Tu-4, Tu-16, and Tu-22M3, capable of carrying up to two bombs. Recently, production of these bombs resumed in Russia as of February 2024, and they have been actively deployed in conflicts including the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war for precision strikes on military targets.

Earlier, there were reports of Russian armed forces shelling civilian areas in Ukraine using aviation bombs KAB-250 and FAB-500.

On June 28, 2024, there was an attack on the village of New York in the Donetsk region, where four civilians were killed and three others, including an eight-year-old girl, were injured. During this incident, a KAB-250 bomb struck a private residence, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuring one man.

Additionally, on June 27, 2024, it was reported that Russian forces used an enhanced FAB-500 bomb with planning and correction modules near Kharkiv. This attack resulted in injuries to four people and acute stress reactions in two others.

These bombs possess significant destructive power and are being used in military operations, leading to serious consequences for civilians.
