Approximately 45 Indian nationals have been discharged from the Russian army, with ongoing efforts to secure the release of an additional 50, according to a spokesperson for the Indian Foreign Ministry.

During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow in July, Russia had pledged to release any Indians who were misled into joining its military and forced into active combat in Ukraine.

Several fighters of Indian nationals have been confirmed dead while fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.

In May of this year, India’s federal investigation agency announced the arrest of four individuals associated with a human trafficking network. They were accused of enticing young men to Russia under false pretenses of lucrative employment opportunities or university admissions.
