According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration head Oleh Syniehubov on April 14, the strike hit the dam located in the Chuhuiv district. He described the site as “one of the largest reservoirs in the Kharkiv region and a critically important facility,” including for the city of Kharkiv.

Speaking on national television, Syniehubov said Russian forces “continue to strike our settlements and civilian infrastructure,” confirming that six guided bombs were directed at the dam. He added that the attack took place almost simultaneously with a broader strike on Kharkiv involving Molniya-type UAVs and Shahed drones.

Syniehubov did not disclose immediate details on the extent of the damage or potential risks, stating that information would be released later to avoid providing operational intelligence. He noted that emergency services, including medical teams, police, and State Emergency Service units, have been deployed and are working on site.

The Pechenihy reservoir plays a key role in regional water supply, making it a strategically significant target. Ukrainian officials have previously warned about the vulnerability of such infrastructure.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, citing intelligence data, said Russia was preparing operations targeting Ukraine’s logistics and essential systems, including water supply networks.

He emphasized the need for increased protection of critical infrastructure, stating: “In every community, there must be a serious and absolutely responsible approach to protecting relevant facilities.”
