Russian Forces Destroy Dam Near Osykove to Disrupt Kostiantynivka Logistics

Russian forces have destroyed a dam near the settlement of Osykove in Donetsk region as part of an intensified effort to disrupt logistics routes leading to Kostiantynivka.
This action follows the previous destruction of a bridge on the northwestern outskirts of the city, which was also intended to complicate the movement of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, according to DeepState on February 25.

While Ukrainian military personnel had established alternative routes to bypass previous obstacles, Russian forces responded by deploying a three-ton guided aerial bomb against the dam during the night.
The destruction of the dam led to the flooding of the surrounding area. Water reached the road connecting Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka, creating conditions that have made the route impassable.
The affected section has turned into a "solid swamp" and transit through the area is currently impossible.
While these actions have complicated logistics for a period of time, the supply lines to the city have not been completely halted, as other routes remain available for movement and transport.

The attack on the Osykove dam recalls the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant on June 6, 2023, which occurred when Russian forces blew up the dam, triggering a large-scale environmental and humanitarian disaster.
Around 80 settlements were flooded, including parts of Kherson and Oleshky, forcing mass evacuations, destroying homes, causing severe environmental damage, and leaving hundreds of thousands of people without access to drinking water.
Earlier, on February 22, a Russian missile strike targeted a production facility in Trostianets owned by the American confectionery company Mondelez International.
According to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, the missile struck one of the main production buildings at the plant, which manufactures brands such as Oreo and Milka. While the minister confirmed there were no casualties, he described the attack as a deliberate hit on a civilian target that contributed to both the Ukrainian and American economies.
This strike was part of a broader pattern of Russian actions against international business interests since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
