Russia Killed 201 Artists and 103 Media Workers Since Russia’s Full-Scale Invasion on Ukraine

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, 201 Ukrainian artists and 103 media workers have been killed, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications.
“These numbers speak not only to the scale of the losses but also serve as a stark reminder of past tragedies. Just as the Stalinist regime decimated an entire generation of Ukrainian cultural figures in the 1920s and early 1930s, Russia is once again deliberately targeting Ukraine’s cultural elite,” the Ministry’s statement reads.
The Ministry of Culture emphasized that Russia’s systematic crimes against journalists and the media pose a serious threat to freedom of speech and information security, undermining democratic values and human rights.
The literary and artistic generation known as the “Executed Renaissance” gave the world masterpieces of literature, painting, music, and theater, the Ministry added.
“Today, Ukraine is once again losing not just talented individuals, but a part of its soul because each artist represents a unique voice that enriches our cultural identity.”
On March 22, it was reported that in one of Ukraine’s occupied cities, teenagers have formed a secret book club to read and discuss Ukrainian poetry and prose that Russia is trying to erase.
