The All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergencies of the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced the launch of serial production of the mobile KUB-M shelter for the first time in Russia.

This was stated in a publication on the institute's website on November 18.

It was noted that the production has commenced in the city of Dzerzhinsk, in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region. The organization’s statement highlights that the shelter "provides protection for people against various threats, including natural disasters and industrial accidents."

In December 2023, the developers of the KUB-M shelter stated that it provides protection for up to 48 hours against a range of threats, including air shockwaves and thermal radiation from nuclear explosions; penetrating radiation and radioactive contamination; the blast and fragmentation effects of conventional weapons; falling debris from structural collapses; hazardous chemicals; and fires.

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has approved Russia's updated nuclear doctrine on November 19. According to the updated Fundamentals of State Nuclear Deterrence Policy, Russia reserves the right to use nuclear weapons in response to the use of weapons of mass destruction against itself or its allies, as well as in the event of aggression against it or Belarus involving conventional weapons.
