Russia Launches “Not My Enemy” Propaganda Campaign Across Europe

Russia has launched a propaganda campaign in Europe under the slogan “Russia is not my enemy.” Stickers and posters with this message have appeared in Romania, France, and Italy, depicting Moscow as a peacemaker rather than an aggressor.
According to Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, which reported the campaign on August 21, these stickers are typically displayed in local languages and often show images such as a handshake, designed to “create the illusion of a ‘peaceful partnership.’”
The campaign’s objective, as stated by the Center, is to “portray itself as a peacemaker, downplay its own crimes, and sow discord in European societies.” Officials warn that such influence operations are intended to “undermine citizens’ trust in the rule of law and democratic institutions,” cast doubt on Europe’s Euro‑Atlantic trajectory, and discredit support for Ukraine.

In Italy, the campaign has manifested in the form of poster displays and film screenings under the title “Russia non è il mio nemico,” organized by pro‑Russian groups such as Donbass Italia and Contronarrazione. Posters appeared prominently in cities like Perugia and Rome.
Observers noted that profiles on social media, such as X, began featuring campaign materials—suggesting a coordinated push to influence public sentiment.
Reports also emphasize that the campaign is part of a broader, intensifying pattern of Russian “hybrid” operations across Europe. These efforts combine disinformation, physical sabotage, cyberattacks, and infrastructure disruption to destabilize societies and weaken support for Ukraine.
Earlier, it was reported that a Russian state-backed propaganda film about the siege of Mariupol inadvertently documents deliberate attacks on civilians, exposing war crimes by Russian forces.
