An overnight drone attack by Russian forces struck multiple Ukrainian regions, killing two people and injuring several others, igniting fires and damaging residential and industrial infrastructure in cities including Odesa, Chernihiv, and Kharkiv, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) reported on June 3.

Odesa

Odesa came under heavy drone assault around 3:30 a.m. local time, with air raid monitors reporting that roughly 15 drones targeted the city.

According to Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov, residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged, and several vehicles caught fire.

“Five people were injured. One of them was hospitalized in moderate condition. The others received medical assistance at the scene,” Trukhanov said.

SES reported that the largest fire broke out in food storage warehouses. In the city’s private sector, two vehicles were destroyed and nearby garages and homes were also affected.

Chernihiv

In Chernihiv, the attack sparked multiple fires, caused widespread destruction, and resulted in at least one civilian death. Local officials believe the city was targeted with Iranian-designed Geran-2 drones (a rebranded version of the Shahed-136).

The SES said:

  • One person was killed;

  • Three others were injured by falling debris;

  • A vehicle was completely destroyed, while five others were damaged;

  • A school, a shop, and an apartment building sustained structural damage;

  • A local industrial facility was also hit.

Kharkiv region

In the Kharkiv region, Russian drones struck a postal terminal in the suburbs, igniting a massive fire. According to the SES, two warehouse buildings and several shipping containers were engulfed in flames, covering a total area of around 3,000 square meters.

Emergency crews, including SES units and local firefighters, responded to extinguish the blaze.

Separately, in the town of Balakliia, a Russian drone strike on a civilian enterprise killed one person and injured another, regional authorities confirmed.

Mykolaiv and Poltava regions

In the southern region of Mykolaiv, Ukrainian air defenses intercepted a Shahed-131/136 drone during the night. As of Monday morning, local officials had not reported any damage or casualties.

In the Poltava region, Russian drones also targeted civilian infrastructure. While air defense systems were active, debris from intercepted drones damaged a municipal facility. No injuries were reported.

Earlier, Russian forces carried out a large-scale air assault on Ukrainian territory overnight on May 31, deploying more than 100 drones and missiles. The attack killed a 9-year-old girl and injured at least 14 others.
