The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that during Ukraine’s offensive in Russia’s Kursk region, the Ukrainian losses were half that of the Russian.

Syrskyi reported that in the documentary “Operation Kursk."

"They [Russian force] experienced what we feel," emphasized the Commander-in-Chief. "They were forced to defend their own territory, and in conditions that were far from comfortable for them. During our offensive operations, our losses were effectively half of those suffered by the defending forces."

According to the Commander-in-Chief, the operation in the Kursk region was planned with insights gained from the successful Kharkiv operation of 2022.

"We analyzed various possible scenarios and had both minimum and maximum objectives. Naturally, we applied the experience from the Kharkiv operation, and that's not an exaggeration. We truly took those lessons into account, especially since the terrain was quite similar," explained the general.

He also highlighted the high level of motivation among Ukrainian soldiers who participated in the Kursk operation.

"Before the offensive—over the course of about two days—we visited all the units, met with the companies, and spoke directly with the service members who would be taking part. I explained the objectives, outlined the tasks, and wished them success in the upcoming actions. Their level of motivation was remarkably high," Syrskyi said.

Ukraine officially announced carrying out an operation in the Kursk region on August 12. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed earlier that the Ukrainian Defense Forces launched a preemptive incursion in the Kursk region to disrupt Russian plans to capture Kharkiv and Sumy regions.
