Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a briefing on November 21 that the establishment of a US missile defense base in Poland is a provocative move that undermines strategic stability and increases the risk of nuclear confrontation.
“The US missile defense base in Poland has long been among the priority targets for potential defeat by Russian forces,” Zakharova said.
“The nature and level of threats posed by such Western military installations make the missile defense base in Poland a long-standing addition to the list of priority targets for potential engagement,” Zakharova declared.
The base, part of NATO's broader missile defense strategy, was opened last week and is seen by its proponents as a critical measure to protect European allies from potential missile threats.
