Russia is redeploying military units from Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions to defend the Kursk region, reports Politico.

“Russia has redeployed some of its units from both Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in southern Ukraine,” said Dmytro Lykhovii, spokesperson for the Tavriya operational-strategic group.

The publication was unable to independently confirm how many Russian troops have been redeployed across the border. However, Lykhovii stated that the number of units was "relatively small."

To counter the Ukrainian advance, Russian forces continue to press on Pokrovsk and other parts of Donetsk region—one of the hottest areas on the front line right now.

“The Russians have amassed a large number of personnel, particularly in Zaporizhzhia region, and the number of units being redeployed is relatively small. We also need to determine if this is just a smokescreen,” said Lykhovii.

Politico notes that the operation in Kursk has boosted morale in Ukraine and provided impetus to Western allies who want Kyiv to shift the battlefield in its favor.
