Russia Reports 144 Drones Intercepted in Massive Attack Across Multiple Regions
On the night of September 10, Russia reported experiencing a massive drone attack targeting multiple Russian regions, including Bryansk, Moscow, Tula, Kaluga, Belgorod, Kursk, Oryol, Voronezh, and Krasnodar Krai.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed that 144 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight, marking one of the largest drone strikes since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Bryansk region saw the highest number of interceptions with 72 drones downed, followed by Moscow region with 20 and Kursk region with 14.
Moscow region Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported that a 46-year-old woman was killed and three other civilians were injured in Ramenskoye, a town located 46 kilometers southeast of Moscow. Social media posts from local residents indicated explosions in Bryansk region around 12:30 a.m. local time.
Later, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced that more than a dozen drones were downed over Moscow region while heading towards the capital. He also noted that emergency services were dealing with a fire on the 11th and 12th floors of a residential building in Ramenskoye. Debris from the downed drones was found near Zhukovsky International Airport, approximately 36 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of Moscow’s center.
As a result of the attack, over 30 international and domestic flights scheduled between midnight and 7:00 a.m. local time were delayed at Vnukovo Airport. Domodedovo Airport was closed in the early hours of September 10.
In Tula region, two drones were reportedly intercepted, with debris falling on an energy facility. According to Russian state media, there were no injuries or disruptions to the energy supply.
