At a press conference in Brussels on January 16, NATO Military Committee Chair Admiral Rob Bauer expressed concern over the lack of any indications that Russia is preparing for peace, according to European Pravda.
Admiral Bauer pointed out that Russia has aligned its economy with military objectives and is strengthening ties with nations such as China, Iran, and North Korea. He emphasized the need for NATO to maintain a unified and robust approach.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine has global consequences, and we see no signs of the Kremlin seeking peace. This situation requires a united and strong response. For this reason, we are focusing on enhancing military cooperation and sharing expertise with our partners,” Bauer explained.
The NATO Military Committee held a meeting on January 15-16, which included Chiefs of Defense from 26 NATO partner countries and representatives of the European Union. The discussions involved countries such as Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Qatar, South Korea, Serbia, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
During the session, NATO officials engaged with Ukrainian General Oleksandr Syrskyi. NATO reaffirmed its long-term commitment to supporting Ukraine through security assistance and training initiatives.
“NATO will continue to assist Ukraine and invest in its future, protecting the rules-based international order in the process,” Admiral Bauer added.
Previously, it was reported that Russia's demands in potential negotiations to resolve its war against Ukraine include Ukraine's formal renunciation of NATO membership and assurances that it will not seek to join the alliance in the future.
