Russia Strikes Kyiv With Drones During Talks Between Zelenskyy and Kier Starmer
Russia launched a drone attack on Kyiv during British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's visit to the Ukrainian capital on January 16. The strike took place shortly after Starmer and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy laid a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance for Ukraine’s fallen soldiers in the city center.
Air raid sirens blared as debris from the downed drone damaged a car near the Mariinskyi Palace, where the two leaders were holding talks on Ukraine’s security needs. Kyiv’s air defenses successfully intercepted the unmanned aircraft.
President Zelenskyy vowed a firm response to the attack, warning, "We will say hello to them too." Addressing journalists with Zelenskyy, Starmer reflected on the experience: "In relation to the drone attack today, it is a reminder to all of us to what Ukrainians are facing every day."
The visit marked Starmer’s first trip to Ukraine as prime minister, during which he signed a historic 100-year cooperation agreement with Zelenskyy. The two leaders reaffirmed Britain’s long-term support for Ukraine as it continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
