A Ukrainian defense technology company is preparing to begin testing a new ballistic missile capable of striking targets hundreds of kilometers away, according to the company’s leadership, according to Denys Shtilerman, chief designer and co-founder of Fire Point, in an interview with Army TV on March 9.

The company plans to start flight tests of its FP-9 ballistic missile in early summer 2026.

According to Shtilerman, engineers are currently completing development of the missile’s engine, which remains one of the final components before testing can begin.

The FP-9 is expected to have a range of about 855 kilometers, with a maximum speed of roughly 2,200 meters per second. The missile is designed to carry a warhead weighing up to 800 kilograms and reach altitudes of up to 70 kilometers during flight.

With an estimated accuracy of around 20 meters, the missile could be used to strike large targets deep behind enemy lines.

Fire Point has already begun testing earlier missile designs.

In February, the company conducted flight tests of the FP-7 operational-tactical ballistic missile, another system under development.

Footage from those tests shows the missile adjusting its trajectory during flight, suggesting that it operates with a guided flight control system rather than following a purely ballistic path.

In addition, Shtilerman recently stated that Ukraine’s defense industry is producing roughly 200 long-range strike drones every day, with the capacity to rapidly increase output.
