Russian Airstrike Hits Kherson’s Central District, Killing One Person, Wounding Several

Russian forces launched airstrikes on Kherson’s Central District early Tuesday morning, killing at least one person and injuring several others, the attack occurred around 6:30 am, according to Kherson region Military Administration Head Oleksandr Prokudin and Kherson City Military Administration Chief Roman Mrochko on April 16.
“A man of middle age suffered injuries incompatible with life. Specialists are currently working to identify him,” officials stated. The victim was reportedly outside when the strike occurred.
A 70-year-old woman was also wounded in the attack. She sustained blast-related injuries and shrapnel wounds and has been hospitalized.
Another victim, a 61-year-old man, was injured by shrapnel in his leg and suffered a concussive blast injury while inside his apartment.
“After air-dropped bombs hit the Central District of Kherson, I came under fire from Russian terrorists. The ground of Kherson saved me,” wrote Roman Mrochko on Telegram.
He added that Russian forces continued to fire on the area after the initial strikes, delaying response efforts: “The Russian army is preventing us from fully beginning the cleanup operation after this attack. Take care of yourselves. Kherson remains unbreakable.”

The airstrike reportedly hit social infrastructure facilities and residential high-rise buildings. Ukrainian rescue workers, social service providers, and utility crews came under artillery fire as they arrived to assess the damage.
“A 20-year-old woman was also injured in the morning attack,” Mrochko added. “She sought medical help on her own and was diagnosed with a blast injury and concussion.”
Efforts to clear the rubble and restore services will begin as soon as the security situation permits, Mrochko said.
UPD. Mrochko wrote that as of 2:19 pm, there were seven wounded in the Russian strike on central Kherson.
As of 3:07 pm, Mrochko reported that the number of injured in the Russian strike increased to nine.
Earlier, the Kherson Prosecutor’s Office launched 1,650 criminal proceedings since February 2022 in relation to Russian military drone attacks targeting civilians.
