Russian Attack on Kyiv Kills Medic in “Double Tap” Strike and Damages Critical Infrastructure, Video

Russia struck Kyiv in a large-scale overnight attack, killing at least four people and wounding nearly two dozen others, Ukrainian officials said. Among the dead was a medical worker who was killed in what authorities described as a “double tap” strike — a tactic in which a second attack follows the first, timed to hit emergency responders.

The assault took place during the night of January 8. More than a dozen ballistic missiles, nearly two dozen cruise missiles, and several hundred Shahed drones were used in the attack. Several districts were hit, causing widespread damage to residential areas and critical infrastructure.
City officials said dozens of buildings were damaged, including the facade of an apartment building in central Kyiv. Debris from intercepted drones fell onto a children’s playground. In one residential building, two strikes hit the same location within a short interval — a pattern consistent with “double tap” attacks, which are intended to inflict casualties among medics, firefighters, and rescue workers responding to the initial explosion.
One medic was killed in the secondary strike, and four others were hospitalized.

Ukrainian authorities said the use of such tactics amounts to deliberate terror against civilians and emergency services.
The attack also disrupted essential services. Parts of the city were left without electricity, heating, and running water, and public transportation was operating with delays. Municipal crews were working through the morning to restore power and repair damaged infrastructure.
