Russian Attack on Sumy Region Claims Lives of Mother and Two Sons, Leaving Father as Sole Survivor
Russian forces killed Tetiana and her sons, 20-year-old Nikita and 7-year-old Vasyl, in an attack on a dormitory in Hlukhiv, Sumy region, leaving their father as the sole survivor of the family, according to local media reports on November 19.
Vasyl was just days away from celebrating his 8th birthday.
Overnight on November 18, Russian forces launched an assault on a dormitory in Hlukhiv, Sumy region, using two Shahed strike drones. Among the victims were residents who evacuated from the nearby village of Ulanove, including Tetiana and her children.
Another family, an 83-year-old woman and her 59-year-old son, also were killed in the attack.
As of 1:00 pm on November 19, the confirmed death toll from the strike on the dormitory stands at 12.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, emphasizing the continued suffering of Ukraine’s border regions.
This is not the first time Russia’s missile attacks on Ukraine have claimed the lives of entire families. On November 11, a Russian strike on Kryvyi Rih killed almost the entire Kulyk family, leaving only the father alive, according to regional governor Serhiy Lysak.
On November 7, a strike on Zaporizhzhia killed Sofia, her 1.5-year-old son Adam, and grandmother Tetyana.
In September, a missile attack on Lviv took the lives of a mother and her three daughters, with only the father surviving.
