Residents of Russian-occupied Crimea have been warned of a possible extended disruption of mobile internet, raising concerns about digital isolation in the region, as was reported by RBC-Ukraine on August 13, 2025.

Both the Russian-installed governor of Sevastopol, Mykhailo Razvozhayev, and the so-called Ministry of Internal Policy, Information, and Communications of the annexed peninsula announced a potential prolonged suspension of mobile internet in Crimea.

In an official statement Razvozhayev said mobile internet restrictions in the city and across Crimea could become longer and more frequent, warning of a possible indefinite shutdown.

He further claimed that “due to the threat of repeated ‘terrorist attacks’ from Ukraine on southern Russian regions, additional security protocols may be introduced, which could further reduce or completely block access to mobile internet for an unspecified duration.”

The authorities framed the anticipated restrictions as measures aimed at ensuring public safety and bolstering defenses against cyberattacks. However, detailed information regarding the timing and expected duration of these outages was not provided.

Earlier, it was reported that Russia shut down mobile networks in the occupied city of Rubizhne, leaving only four payphones operational and severely restricting residents' ability to communicate.
