Russian forces have significantly intensified shelling of the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region and nearby villages, according to Oleksii Dmytrashkivskyi, a spokesperson for the temporary military command in the Russian Federation. He made the statement during the national telethon on January 7.

"Civilians mostly remain at home or in shelters because the enemy has greatly increased shelling of the town of Sudzha and the surrounding villages. Many villages are simply no longer there," Dmytrashkivskyi said.

Since August 6, air and artillery strikes on Sudzha have resulted in 36 civilian deaths and injuries to approximately 100 others, with varying degrees of severity, according to the spokesperson.

Dmytrashkivskyi also reported that Russian forces are actively employing S-300 missiles to strike the area.

Additionally, he noted that FPV drones are being deployed in large numbers, operating like "swarms of bees" to monitor and target any movements.

Previously, it was reported that in five months of active combat in the Kursk region, Russian forces have reportedly suffered over 38,000 casualties, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
