Russian Forces Install Special Traffic Lights to Monitor Ukrainian FPV Drones
Russian troops have begun deploying ‘traffic lights’ at the frontlines to track Ukrainian drone threats, utilizing a color-coded alert system for situational awareness. The system operates similarly to traffic control signals.
Sergiy “Flash” Beskrestnov, a communications and electronic warfare expert, shared a photograph showing the frontline traffic lights being used to indicate drone threat levels. The system uses three color signals:
Green: No threat
Yellow: Threat is distant
Red: Serious threat
Defense Express notes that while the system may seem simple, it serves as an alert mechanism to help Russian forces monitor the movement of Ukrainian drones.
“Like this, the enemy receives information about the drone threat even without having an individual detector. This allows them to choose the right moment to pass through a specific frontline area with less risk,” writes Defense Express.
In August, it was reported that Russia has introduced new fiber-optic drone technology in response to Ukraine’s operations in the Kursk region, marking the first known use of such weapons in combat. Unlike traditional drones that rely on radio frequencies, these fiber-optic drones use a wire to transmit high-resolution video signals, making them immune to electronic jamming.
