On the night of August 28, Russian forces launched a targeted strike against civilian passenger trains in Ukraine. The attack damaged part of the Intercity+ high-speed train fleet, including one train that had been scheduled to operate on the Kyiv–Kharkiv route. According to Ukrzaliznytsia , the train sustained serious damage.

“Thanks to the coordinated actions of railway workers from the depot, the fire at the site was extinguished. One train sustained significant damage. The staff were in shelters in advance and are unharmed,” the statement said.

The railway company emphasized that every effort is being made to keep trains running despite the attack. Ukrzaliznytsia assured passengers that no routes will be canceled.

To maintain service, replacement trains are being deployed, while repairs to the damaged infrastructure continue. Officials noted that some delays may occur, and updates will be provided to passengers as restoration work progresses.

In addition to the damage at the depot, the strike also affected the railway hub in Koziatyn. As a result, a number of trains had to be redirected to alternative routes.

The overnight assault struck Kyiv with missiles and drones, causing significant damage to the European Union mission to Ukraine.

“Whatever Putin said in Alaska, his real actions reject diplomacy, dialogue, and peace efforts,” Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha wrote on X.

Katarína Mathernová, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, also confirmed that the mission’s building had been severely damaged by the shock wave, calling it Moscow’s true response to peace efforts.

Earlier, it was reported that at least 14 people were killed, including three children aged 2, 14, and 17, and 48 others were injured in a large-scale overnight Russian missile and drone strike on Kyiv.
