Russia carried out a missile strike on port infrastructure in Chornomorsk, Odesa region, hitting a berth at the Chornomorsk port where a civilian vessel flying the Maltese flag was docked.

This was reported by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development Oleksii Kuleba on January 15.

According to Kuleba, the attack was carried out with a ballistic missile. One crew member aboard the foreign vessel was wounded and is currently receiving medical assistance.

The ship had been preparing to load containerized cargo. The strike damaged three containers and caused an oil spill. Containment booms are being installed to limit environmental impact.

“This is yet another act of Russian terror against civilian port infrastructure, international trade, and maritime security. Russia is deliberately targeting facilities that underpin exports, logistics, and food security,” the minister noted.

All relevant emergency and port services are operating at the scene.

Earlier, it was reported that Kyiv is grappling with an exceptionally severe situation, one not seen at any point during the four years of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, as the city works to restore heat and power supplies following recent large-scale Russian strikes on critical infrastructure.
