Ukraine endured a large-scale Russian assault overnight, with Russian forces launching 40 missiles, both cruise and ballistic, and around 580 drones of various types, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote in a Telegram on September 20.

The attacks targeted multiple regions, including Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, and communities in Poltava, Kyiv, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv.

Infrastructure, residential areas, and civilian enterprises were struck, including a direct hit on a Dnipro apartment building by a missile carrying cluster munitions.

Zelenskyy confirmed that dozens were wounded and three people were killed, offering condolences to the families of the victims. He praised Ukrainian defenders, noting the skill of F-16 pilots who successfully intercepted several cruise missiles.

“Each strike is not a military necessity but a deliberate strategy by Russia to terrorize civilians and destroy our infrastructure,” Zelenskyy said.

He called for a stronger international response, emphasizing the need to strengthen air defense, increase arms deliveries, and expand sanctions against Russia’s military and financial networks.

“Every restriction on Russia saves lives,” he added, thanking allies and supporters for their continued assistance.

Previously, it was reported that Russian forces are deliberately targeting older residential buildings in an effort to maximize destruction and civilian casualties, according to Major General Volodymyr Kachkan, Director of the Emergency Response Department of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.
