Russian Missile Targets Civilian Cargo Ship Carrying Wheat for Egypt in Black Sea

A Russian missile struck a cargo ship carrying wheat to Egypt in the Black Sea today, immediately after it exited Ukrainian territorial waters. Preliminary reports indicate that, fortunately, there were no casualties in the attack on the civilian vessel.

“Ukraine, a vital contributor to global food security, plays a crucial role in maintaining the internal stability and livelihoods of dozens of countries worldwide through its food export corridors. Ukrainian exports are particularly critical for nations in Africa and the Middle East”, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on his Telegram channel.

In response to the attack, Zelenskyy emphasized on Ukrainian commitment to safeguarding its ports, the Black Sea, and the global food supply chain. “This is a real priority for Ukraine—the protection of life—and it should be a priority for every country as well,” he said.

“We are waiting for the reaction of the world,” Zelenskyy said, highliting Ukraine’s call for a strong international response, stressing that food supplies, such as wheat, should never become targets of military aggression.
