Ukraine launched the first shipment of humanitarian aid to Gaza through its GrainFromUA initiative, in cooperation with the World Food Programme (WFP).

The initial shipment, consisting of 1,000 tons of wheat flour, arrived in the Gaza Strip via Jordan after departing Turkey. This critical aid is estimated to provide food assistance to over 100,000 families caught in the crossfire of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

“We are committed to providing life-saving aid to innocent civilians facing food insecurity and the threat of starvation,” Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, stated. He emphasized the devastating impact of the war on global food security, noting that 70 million people worldwide are currently experiencing a food crisis due to the Russian invasion.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula prioritizes “food security” as a key element for achieving lasting peace. Ukraine, alongside its partners, actively pursues concrete solutions to combat the global food crisis. The successful, sustained, and secure implementation of the GrainFromUA initiative is a cornerstone of this effort.

This initial wheat flour shipment marks the first of three planned deliveries to Palestine under the GrainFromUA program. Additional vessels are scheduled to depart in the coming months, aiming to deliver a total of over 7,000 tons of wheat flour to Gaza. This crucial support is made possible with contributions from international donors including Norway, Austria, Estonia, France, and Iceland.

Ukraine has a long-standing history as a global provider of food security. Throughout the GrainFromUA program’s existence, essential food supplies have been sent to numerous countries, including Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Yemen.

“Ukraine has always been, and will continue to be, a donor of food security for the entire world,” Yermak stated. Underscoring the importance of food security within the Peace Formula, they urged all nations to join this collective effort in achieving global food security.
