Russian Strikes Hit Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kyiv, Leaving Civilians Among the Dead

Zaporizhzhia came under a series of Russian attacks, with the city subjected to nearly 40 minutes of bombardment in the early hours, according to the Zaporizhzhia regional governor Ivan Fedorov on September 20.
Ukrainian air defenses intercepted some of the strikes, but at least 10 hit residential and civilian areas, including the Kosmichny neighborhood, a riverside avenue near shopping centers and critical infrastructure, and the Shevchenkivskyi district.

None of the targeted sites were related to military infrastructure, the governor stated.
“It was deliberate terror against a peaceful city and its inhabitants,” Fedorov wrote.
The attacks left three civilians dead and two others injured, including a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, who is experiencing acute stress.

Authorities thanked medical teams, emergency responders, and municipal workers for their efforts at the scene.
Russian drones also targeted the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy. The strikes hit three locations in the Kovpakivskyi district, sparking fires and damaging both industrial sites and an educational insitution, Sumy governor Oleg Grigorov reported.

One person sustained injuries.
Russian strikes hit four districts in Kyiv region as well, causing multiple fires and property damage. One man was lightly injured in Boryspil, according to Kyiv Regional Military Administration.
Previously, Ukraine had endured a large-scale Russian assault overnight, with Russian forces launching 40 missiles, both cruise and ballistic, and around 580 drones of various types, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy wrote in Telegram.
