Russian counterattack near the Ukrainian-held village of Plekhovo, Kursk region ended up with a disaster for Russian troops from the 15th Pyatnashka Brigade as their armored vehicles struggled to get through thier own defense lines built to stop Ukrainian assault in Kursk region, Forbes reported on September 29.

A Russian military column stuck in Russian-built defensive structures outside Plekhovo included anti-tank traps and an infantry trench complex. As the Russian forces struggled to navigate their own obstacles, Ukraine’s 129th Territorial Defense Brigade launched a wave of explosive drones, further complicating the assault.

With the Russian forces unable to respond quickly to the Ukrainian assault on August 6, the anti-tank traps and infantry trenches became assets for the advancing Ukrainian troops.

According to Forbes, the Russian engineers who constructed the defenses succeeded in creating effective obstacles, these very defenses helped trap their own troops, turning the situation to Ukraine’s benefit.

Earlier, surprise Ukrainian attack on Kursk region on August 6 caught the Russian forces off guard, preventing them from using their defensive positions and firepower deployed in the region.
