Russia’s Air War Meets New Resistance as UK Sends $133 Million Aid to Ukraine

The United Kingdom has announced an urgent new package of military aid worth approximately $133 million to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses, according to a statement published by the British government on March 27.
The funding is expected to be deployed rapidly to enhance Ukraine’s ability to defend both front-line troops and critical infrastructure from ongoing Russian air attacks.

With this latest package, the UK has committed a total of roughly $798 million toward Ukraine’s air defense over the past two months.
“Ukraine continues to bravely defend against Putin’s brutal attacks, and I am proud of how the UK is stepping up support to Ukraine to achieve peace on their terms. This will provide Ukraine with vital air defence to protect civilians, cities and critical infrastructure from Russia’s relentless attacks,” said UK Defense Secretary John Healey.
British officials noted that the new funding builds on a previously announced $665 million air defense support package unveiled in February during a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

That earlier package included around $200 million allocated to the NATO PURL initiative, which enables the rapid delivery of air defense interceptors, as well as more than 1,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM) produced in Belfast.
Earlier, the UK Ministry of Defence officially confirmed that 13 Raven short-range air defense systems have already been delivered to Ukraine, along with two prototype Gravehawk systems.
British officials stated that the Raven systems are now fully in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and are being actively used to counter Russian aerial threats.
