Russia's Minor Gains Amid Significant Losses on Eastern Front, Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Reports
Ukraine's Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported on August 1 that while Russia is experiencing significant losses, it has made "minor gains" in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
“The enemy continues to concentrate its efforts in the Pokrovsk direction, throws its most experienced assault units into battle, trying to break through our defenses in the direction of Zhelanne, Novohrodivka, Pokrovsk,” Syrskyi stated.
Syrskyi noted that fighting continues in the Kupiansk direction and near the canal on the outskirts of Chasiv Yar, a city that is seen as pivotal toward further Russian advance in the Donetsk region.
“Combat operations of varying intensity continue along all directions of the enemy's offensive. In some places, at the cost of heavy losses, the enemy has little success,” Syrskyi added.
The Commander-in-Chief noted that a difficult situation can be seen in the Siversk direction where Russia is actively using artillery and conducting assaults but has had no success.
The forces of the National Police, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Military law enforcement services are conducting counter-subversive actions. Their units are currently detecting and neutralizing sabotage groups of the enemy in urban areas in the Toretsk direction.
