Russia’s Ruling Party Honors Soldiers’ Wives With Sausage, Cheese, and Hashtags

Russia’s ruling United Russia party distributed food packages for International Women’s Day to wives and mothers of men fighting in Ukraine, as well as volunteers collecting aid for the war effort, in several regions, Verstka reported on March 9.
The women were photographed with party symbols.

In the village of Peschany Dol, a concert program was held for residents before March 8. Organizers then gave gifts and present packages from the party’s local branch in the Neftegorsky district to women helping collect aid for participants in the war.
As a present, each received two bottles of sunflower oil.
In another case in Yugra, a region in western Siberia in Russia, wives and mothers of men fighting in Ukraine received packages with fruit and a basic set of groceries, including dairy, bread, eggs, and packaged food.
In Russia’s Khanty-Mansi region, wives and mothers of servicemen received a package with fruit drink, bread, sour cream, eggs, butter, jam, sausage, and cheese.
The post carried the hashtag “we don’t abandon our own.”

United Russia and local officials described the handouts as support for wives, mothers, and women helping the war effort ahead of March 8, framing them as a sign of “respect” and “comprehensive support” for families of participants in the war against Ukraine.
“Surrounding the families of SVO participants with care and attention is the most important task of the authorities and of society as a whole,” party representatives wrote in the post.
Earlier, it was reported that Russian veterans returning from the war in Ukraine have killed or injured more than 1,000 people inside Russia, with many incidents tied to domestic disputes and alcohol-fueled violence.
The report said courts have often treated frontline service as a mitigating factor at sentencing, reducing penalties or softening charges for some defendants.
