Russia’s War Kills 618 Ukrainian Children, Injures Nearly 2,000—True Toll Likely Higher

A total of 618 children have been killed and at least 1,884 injured since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on April 14.
The true number of Ukrainian children killed is likely higher, as the current figures do not include casualties from areas under temporary occupation or regions where active hostilities continue, according to the statement.
The Donetsk region recorded the highest number of child casualties, with 638 children reported killed. In the Kharkiv region, the number reached 480, in Dnipropetrovsk, 228, in Kherson, 203, in Zaporizhzhia, 170, in Kyiv, 136, in Sumy, 132, and in Mykolaiv, 118.
The Prosecutor General’s Office also confirmed that during the Russian missile strike on April 13 in the city of Sumy, two boys aged 11 and 17 were killed, and 15 other children, ranging in age from 1 to 16, were injured.
Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko warned that residents of Ukrainian border cities have less than one minute to reach shelter in the event of a ballistic missile strike.
Klymenko said the missiles used in the strike were likely Iskander-M ballistic missiles equipped with cluster munitions, outgoing US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink corroborated the report.
